Come and explore screen printing with me !

Saturday November 9 or Sunday November 10
10am - 5pm in Brooklyn, NY

In 1995 I took two intensive screen printing courses over two semesters at a community college in California.  I immediately loved this creative and expansive art technique and those classes changed the course of my life: a year later I started printing and selling my designs and accessories and my company Lotta Jansdotter was born. For the last 15 years my art work and products have been produced and printed by other hands and companies and now, 24 years later, I find that I truly miss those days printing with my own hands, using my screens.  I yearn to do it again and I am now coming full circle, back to where it all started, and I am so excited get back into screen printing again!

So, I invite you to join me for this one day immersive workshop where we will explore screen printing together.  I will share a very hands-on method of beginning screen printing for those interested in creating their own custom textiles or limited editions of cards and posters.  It is a perfect class for beginners and for people who want a re-introduction to screen printing again. In this day of printing you will learn how to transform your artwork into screen prints on paper and fabric using hand-cut stencils.  You will learn the essential steps in the screen printing process from design idea to the finished product, so you can produce multiples and editions.

We have a full day so you will have plenty of time to explore and practice at your own pace, and I will be there to guide you along the way and share my tips and ideas.  It is a practical, easy, rewarding and, most importantly, a really fun day of getting creative, productive and messy. Please note that we will NOT be working with photo sensitive emulsion and exposure units.  We will be using hand-cut stencils. This is a simple, yet very successful, method and a great entry-level process that can easily be set up to continue doing at home.

MATERIALS: All materials such as stencils, inks, tools, and plenty of paper and fabric items to print on are included.  You will also keep your very own screen printing frame and rubber squeegee so you can continue printing at home.

WHAT TO BRING: An apron. + also make sure to dress in comfortable clothes and shoes that are not too precious since it can get messy and we are working with textile inks that might stain your clothes permanently. Optional: your own drawing or design inspiration.  Please keep in mind that bold, blocky designs print best. Thin lines can be printed but can be a bit trickier.  I am very happy to help you if needed with your designs ideas during the workshop to make them successful and print-ready.

WHEN: Saturday, November 9 or Sunday November 10 , 2019 . 10am - 5pm

WHERE: The workshop takes place at the Textile Arts Center, located in my old neighborhood of Gowanus in Brooklyn, NY.  Not only is it an amazing facility to work in, but we will be surrounded by great restaurants and bars close by, plenty of inspiring, cool shops (including a shop with the most amazing apple pie!) that you can explore and enjoy before and after the workshop.

LUNCH : We will take a lunch break in the print studio and enjoy a hand crafted sandwich or a salad created by a local artisan bakery cafe close by.  More details on lunch options will be provided via email once you have registered and paid for the class.  Special diets will be accommodated. I will also compile and share a list of my favorite spots and restaurants you can visit before and after the workshop while you are in Gowanus, which will be sent in that same email.

You will leave this workshop with not only several printed fabric and paper items, but also with plenty of inspiration, new skills and confidence to keep creating and printing your own designs and motifs at home.
