Hello out there! We're very honored to be a part of a charity event this Sunday in Santa Cruz, and we wanted to share some of the details with you.
Our friend, illustrator and author Heather Ross has a twin sister, Christie, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily, the disease was caught early and she has already begun her treatment which will include surgery, chemo and radiation. Unfortunately, even though the prognosis is good, her insurance situation is not.
Here's a little more about Christie, from Heather:
“Christie works in a Santa Cruz area high school, managing the counseling and advising office as well as serving personally as the at-risk youth intervention counselor.  She works tirelessly, and changes lives every single day. Yet, thanks to a maddening and confusing teacher's union rule (don't get me started), her job does not entitle her to standard health benefits. My sister is usually the one to help, not to ask for help. She is generous and good and incredibly hardworking. She has always put the needs of others before her own, and now she's fighting a terrible disease with the added stress of knowing that it will drain her family financially.”
Hoping to give her sister some peace of mind, Heather has organized a fundraising party in Santa Cruz, CA, this Sunday, June 30th at 7pm. The evening will be filled with cocktails, a live auction and raffle, and a chance to shop for Heather's newest fabric line. Tickets are $50 each through Harts or and include a raffle ticket.
If you're in the Santa Cruz area, there are just a few tickets left to this Sunday's event. And if you're not on the West Coast, you can still help out by purchasing tee's, prints and raffle tickets online, right here.
